Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. Given that the data exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for instance, the choices are limited since you will not have root access to the hosting server, so you may only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. They are all actions which are executed in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are tons of applications for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
If the shared hosting package deal that you’ve selected during the signup procedure includes SSH access as standard, you'll be able to activate this function with simply a click within your Hepsia Control Panel. If you've chosen a different package, the SSH access function may be added through the Upgrades menu and it'll become available right away. All the info you need to connect shall be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can also set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to change it anytime. All the commands that are permitted are listed inside the Help articles that we have prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax that you have to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you'll be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to get SSH access to it with simply a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you'll be able to include it without difficulty through the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you'll find the information which you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated at any time, when required. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files using a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we provide. A detailed list of the commands that you can perform shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you can perform inside your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server plans include SSH access by default, so you will not need to add any upgrades or enable anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login info, you shall be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials that you have chosen during the signup procedure. As the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions in terms of the commands which you could run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage pretty much everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you are able to work with your files, databases and any applications you install in a fast and protected way.
